My Story

Jeff Shirk's journey in athletics began as a standout player at the University of Maryland. During his tenure from 1997 to 2000, he distinguished himself on the Maryland Terrapins' defense under coaching legend Dick Edell, earning acclaim for his formidable work ethic and rugged style of play. Additionally, Jeff showcased his talents in the professional arena, competing for the Philadelphia Wings (2000), Washington Power (2001), and New York Saints (2002-03) in the National Lacrosse League.

 

Transitioning seamlessly from player to coach, Jeff dedicated 21 years to mentoring young athletes as a college lacrosse coach. His coaching career spanned impactful stints at the University of Maryland, Brown University, Virginia Military Institute, Washington College, and the Naval Academy Preparatory School. Jeff's coaching philosophy prioritizes skill development, sportsmanship, and a robust work ethic, empowering countless players to excel both athletically and personally.

 

Since concluding his collegiate coaching career in 2021, Jeff has significantly contributed to the lacrosse community as a recruiting consultant for club lacrosse programs and high school players. His insights and guidance are instrumental in helping aspiring collegiate athletes navigate the recruiting process to find the best fit for their academic and athletic goals.

 

On July 19th, 2021, Jeff Shirk was inducted into the New Jersey Chapter of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

 

Currently, Jeff serves as the Director of Athletics at The Pine School in Hobe Sound, Florida where he is deeply committed to fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership among student-athletes. His unwavering dedication to guiding students towards their maximum potential, both on and off the field, highlights his vision and commitment as a mentor and coach. Using his enthusiasm for educating through sport, Jeff motivates students to excel both athletically and academically.
